After several days in Amsterdam, I continued my holiday in Liege, Belgium. I chose this destination because it was in line with my way to go home to Germany. Belgium is the 9th country I visited. I only need to travel less than 5 hours by bus from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
This city is quite beautiful. With the housing located on the hillside. Downhill and uphill roads. A combination of classic and modern.
I arrived in Liege at around 6:10 PM. The bus driver said that we had arrived in "Lii-eeess". I was quite confused. Because the city was written as "Lie-ge". I tried to check it on the internet, but unfortunately, my network was not good enough. So I had to ask another passenger if I had arrived at my destination. Luckily she knew that I had indeed arrived in Liege. If I had been late, maybe I would have continued my journey to Luxembourg.
I had planned to hunt for photos for a while, but it seemed impossible. The weather was not so good. I was also tired from walking around Amsterdam all day. That night I went straight to the inn.
The inn owner is an old lady. She is very friendly. She speaks English and German. That is quite helpful. Although in the end there were still difficulties in communicating, but it is quite good. As usual, I stay only to sleep. So I rarely stay in hotels, but choose backpacker-style accommodation. Especially, I was alone on my holiday.
When morning came, I went straight to Liège-Guillemins station. I was very lucky because the weather was very nice and there were not too many people. I could freely take photos from various sides. This station is very big and also modern. At the bottom there are several shops for shopping, and of course toilets. Something very important to me, haha..
From the station, I kept walking looking for a good spot. I met people who might be going to work. There were also many teenagers. As if I was part of the daily life of the people there. Things like this make every trip memorable. Especially if we interact with them. I then enjoyed the view of the city of Liege from the banks of the Meuse River. I relaxed and enjoyed the warm sunshine. Furthermore, I also did not forget to eat the apple in my bag. Of course, I did not miss it to take some pictures.
Time passed, I continued my journey. I then used the daily ticket that I had ordered. I got on the bus, but it seemed like I didn't know how to use the ticket. Luckily the bus driver let me in. I was a little doubtful, whether I had ordered the right ticket. I had time to check it, it seemed like I was not wrong. It was just that I don't know how to use it.
I planned to take photos at several points, but I didn't do it in the end. For example, I went to Montagne de Bueren. There was a project going on there. I couldn't take the best photos. So I cancelled it, and intended to come back later. Then I went to Coteaux de la Citadelle.
Coteaux de la Citadelle is a fortress located on a slope. We have to enter through a special route. I used Google Maps to go there, but it turned out that access was temporarily closed and diverted. I went to the access. However, I was confused, because it was like entering through a housing complex or private area. For a moment I just stood there and looked confused. Then an old man came. He asked me in French. I didn't understand what he was saying. Then I showed the writing Coteaux de la Citadelle on my smartphone. He then explained that it was true that I had to go in that direction. I didn't understand what he was saying, other than the word "oui". After walking through the narrow alleys. I finally arrived at Coteaux de la Citadelle. The view is beautiful and peaceful. If I came with a partner, it might be more romantic haha.. From here we can see the view of Liege city. You can relax and sit on the benches provided. This fort is more like a small park on a hillside.
After that, I went back to Montagne de Bueren. Unfortunately, there was still a project going on there. Besides, I saw that the atmosphere was no longer so supportive, then finally I canceled it. I continued my journey by looking for food, souvenirs, and going around. Until the afternoon, I returned to Germany.
