The Wonderful Eltz Castle in Germany

Eltz Castle

It was my first time visiting Eltz Castle. Earlier I have discussed with a friend in Trier, that we will visit this Castle together. In that time, she was in leave and his home isn’t that far away from the castle. Eltz Castle is a beautiful medieval Castle in Wierschem , Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It was built in 1157. Until now, You can visit it regularly. You just need to buy a ticket to enter. The Location of this castle you can see below:

My friend and I have planned that we will take a trip with train until Möden (Mosel) train station and then hike to the castle. We had to wake up early Morning. I stayed at my friend apartment, so we can arrive earlier in the castle. We guested that will be there so many people if we come later than 10 am. We went at 5 am. Likewise, we had to reach the train. After around 1,5 hours, we arrived in Möden (Mosel). Then we continued with hiking.

In the first plan, we will take fastest way to Eltz Castle, but in the fact, we have taken another way, because we were not sure with the way from Google map. In the end we decided to hike on the road. It was about 20–30 minutes longer, but we didn’t want to take the risk. While we were hiking, we have been really enjoy our hiking. I can see the view of Möden (Mosel) and vineyard, and then we met field and ranch. After long hiking then we met the sign that the castle is no longer so far away.

We hiked in Eltz Forest. It was Autumn. Yes. It was so beautiful. You can see the colorful leaves and fall. We were really enjoy our hike. Below are the photos of Eltz forest. While we were hiking.

Throughout the journey while in the Eltz forest, there are many signs that help us not to get lost. This is very helpful in case of emergency, such as losing internet connection or your cellphone battery runs out. Actually in Internet they say that there is bus connection from Hatzenport, but unfortunately we can’t find it there. After about 1,5 hours of hiking, finally we have reached the Castle.

When we arrived at the castle, they were still closed, but there were already other visitors taking pictures. We had about 30 minutes until the castle opened. Luckily we were able to take some pictures before other visitors arrived there. I am one of those who like quiet places to take pictures. Although I can edit it, but it would be better if it remains natural. After the castle opened, and we were satisfied taking pictures and videos in front of the castle, we initially wanted to go inside, but we checked first how the photos were inside the castle. Finally, we decided not to go inside. I suggest you go in, what we did was just a personal opinion. You can get information on opening hours and entrance tickets here.

After discussing, we decided to go home using the bus that operates from in front of the castle. We thought that this bus would go to the nearest station, so we wouldn’t have to hike too far. The bus fare was 2 euros per person. It turned out that this bus only went to the parking area. Unfortunately on Google Maps there was no public transportation connection to Möden (Mosel). In the end, we hiked to Moselkern.

On the way home we saw forests and fields again. About 1 km before reaching Moselkern station, we got lost entering a special car lane. There was no sidewalk. We had no other choice but to walk on the side carefully. Because if we had to turn around again, our energy might run out.

After walking very slowly, we finally arrived at Moselkern station. We found that this station was unique. Because it was very old. We didn’t think it was a station at first.
My shoulders felt very sore, and I was quite tired. We decided to go home and find lunch in Trier.

Some tips for those of you who want to visit, if possible, come earlier. So you can get good photos, because there are not many visitors. If you want to use the bus, look for public transportation connections to Hatzenport. If you use private transportation, you can park it in parking lot near the castle, then you can continue with the shuttle bus or even hiking. Then, if you want to experience hiking like we did, try to come earlier, and it would be better if you come in the summer and the weather is sunny, so you can enjoy the trip more.
