The Netherlands is the 8th country I have visited. Actually, I have planned to go to the Netherlands for several years, but I have only just been able to visit now. One reason why I want to go to the Netherlands is because of historical reasons. Where this country has colonized my country long time ago. I just want to know how this country could colonize us for so long. When I arrived, I wondered how such a small country could colonize us, a country that is many times larger with a very large number of people. The reason is that we may not have been united in the past, still small kingdoms and also there was no unifying our so many ethnicities. However, outside all that, I really enjoyed my holiday in Amsterdam.
As usual, before visiting, I had mapped out where I would visit. I started to calculate where my first destination would be. However, I have a bad habit, where I will often go to the toilet when the air is cold. Yes, I have to go to the toilet first. Unfortunately, like most countries in Europe, the availability of public toilets is very rare. I found a toilet, but it turned out not to work. I had to walk a few minutes to find another toilet. Until I stood in front of a building. On Google Maps it said that there is a public toilet. But I was not sure, because it looked like an administrative office. Maybe it's a city hall or something. Because I had to go to the toilet immediately, I finally dared to ask if there was a toilet. They thought I was going to immigration. I said no, I just wanted to go to the toilet. Luckily they let me use their toilet. Thank you, good people.
After I felt comfortable enough to hunt for photos, I started walking along the streets of Amsterdam. I saw many ditches and small rivers, typical buildings lined up, and of course bicycles everywhere. When I arrived, the weather was not so good, but I still took photos. I tried to maximize what was there. I took pictures of many beautiful spots, which I could take as my collection. Afternoon, the sun began to show itself. I really hope for sunny weather. Alhamdulillah I was able to get some good moments.
I went around the city of Amsterdam. Using the tram or walking. Something new for me was that I had to check in and out when riding the tram. It was new for me, because in Germany we don't do that. Yes, maybe for check in, but not for check out. For me this is a bit of a hassle. Until one time, the scanner couldn't scan the QR Code that I had, luckily the officer let me in, and it was okay.
While in Amsterdam, I visited 2 Indonesian restaurants, but one of them was closed, so I could only buy from one of the restaurants. The taste of Indonesian that I rarely found during I live in Germany. It was enough to cure my longing for Indonesian food. It tasted good, but the portion was too big for me, so I had to eat it twice. When I ordered the food, maybe because of communication problem, the seller had packed the food for take away. The plan was, I intended to eat there, but oh well.
I also visited a place with a windmill. Something I only saw on TV when I was a kid. Unfortunately I didn't visit the tulip garden. Possibly next time. I also didn't come to the museum with Indonesian history in it, I think I got enough, and I can easily see it on the internet. I also didn't join the canal tour, I think I just enough went around Amsterdam. So I didn't need that. Besides, I also tripped alone, perhaps if I was with a friend or partner, it would be more memorable.
After visiting many places to shop for souvenirs, I finally decided on my trip to Belgium.
See my work in Netherlands here!
